The Story of ImPrints

I've always enjoyed putting words on paper, so when I heard PRT wanted a name for a newsletter, I thought I was up to the challenge. It seemed pretty obvious to me that we needed to combine a name that implied putting words onto paper, but also including the letters PRT. And when I started thinking about it at five o'clock one morning, as I was cuddling my six-month-old son and giving him his Saturday morning bottle, I thought of the word "imprints." I looked it up in the dictionary and the definition was...IMPRINT - as a mark, or design, a characteristic effect; as a printer's imprint, or to stamp or fix something; as in the memory or mind. If you imprint something, it is putting thoughts onto paper. It just seemed to fit.

I was unofficially designated to be the Campbell River contributor. Usually it's done under a great deal of duress because you're late for the deadline and you're scrambling to get the submission done. It's fairly easy to jot some things on paper when you have a lot of exciting things to talk about and usually there are. There's a lot that goes on in these nurseries. There are comical things and serious items and we're proud of what we've accomplished, so basically I just try to get all those put down on paper in some readable format.

At first it was a bit of a chore, but now I see how everybody looks forward to the newsletter. It's the only time of the month when it's quiet in the lunchroom. We've grown so very much now and we're going to be growing more. It's one of the most effective ways of educating yourself on what's happening at the other work sites and so people look forward to it very much. I think it is a very valuable tool.
