RT's 10th anniversary represents a major milestone in the company's short corporate history. During these first 10 years, there have been "ups" and "downs," and we have traveled a long way. In 10 short years, PRT has:

  • expanded nurseries from six to 10
  • doubled seedling production from 45 million in 1988 to about 90 million today
  • expanded greenhouse capacity almost tenfold, to more than 1,750,000 square feet
  • tripled sales to approximately $22 million today
  • extended operations within B.C. and into Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario, with customers in various regions of the United States
  • moved from a small, new company with an uncertain future, to a solid public corporation with a bright future.

From the outset, we realized that in order for PRT to be successful, it would need considerable support and buy-in from the nursery employees. The personal and individual family commitments symbolized by the original employee investments was the "critical success factor" for PRT. Without this commitment, PRT would not be what it is today.

PRT has immensely benefited from the contributions of hundreds of individuals who have worked with us. The employees and Managers in the nurseries, at PBI, and in the corporate office have worked hard and dedicated themselves to improving their craft and to excellence in customer service. We initiated it, but you folks made it happen -- we thank you most sincerely.

The loyalty and continued support of PRT clients has been crucial to our success. The members of our Board of Directors have always been willing to share their wisdom in guiding PRT's course. Our fellow Executive staff have worked to steady the course through the good and the challenging times -- we have truly taken this journey together.

PRT is once again, positioned to enter a period of renewed growth and success. As we stand here today, we invite you to look back together with us at the first 10 years with pride, and with the satisfaction of a job well done.

This book commemorates our 10th anniversary and its release coincides with Charlie's retirement. It seemed an ideal way for Charlie, together with Ev and Chris, to give back something of what we have shared together with you during this past decade. It is given with the wish for continued growth, success and prosperity, both personally and as a company.
