PRT's Vision -- An Open Letter to Employees September 1, 2003 President's Letter - PRT Vision and Values Dear Fellow Employees: This letter is the start of a regular dialogue about our shared belief of what PRT means to us as employees, and what PRT means to our customers and shareholders. I commit to keeping this dialogue open with periodic letters and invite you to respond to them at any time, through phone or email. These letters will not be about current projects; those will be covered in the usual way. Instead, I want to discuss with you our corporate vision and values and how they relate to PRT's position in our industries and communities. I think our PRT vision and values strike a chord with all employees already, and that they have real meaning for us all. These beliefs must be woven into the fabric of our everyday life at PRT. Our values must form the basis for every decision our company makes, and every decision each one of our employees make. I will utilize ImPRinTs and our company website as vehicles to communicate my thoughts to you. I will post new letters to our website and retain earlier ones there for reference. Where appropriate, I will post questions and provide answers or clarification. I ask you all to participate in this important process on an ongoing basis by thinking about these concepts, providing feedback and adopting our common goals. Let me begin by sharing my vision for PRT, and by describing the commitments we make to get there. PRT is a leader in seedling production. We achieved this position because we have always been willing, able and ready to conveniently provide healthy and fast-growing seedlings to all potential customers in all potential marketplaces. To our customers, we commit to provide the utmost in reliable seedling production, comprehensive service, and good value. To meet this commitment, PRT people will always consider how the customer will be affected by decisions we make, and the actions we take as a result. We will strive to "think like our customers". To our employees we will consistently provide fair treatment, opportunities for advancement, and a stable platform for success within a safe working environment. PRT's success ensures ongoing success for our people. We will do our best to help the public understand that our industry and the industries we serve are sustainable. To our shareholders we will provide sustainable financial performance from a company they can believe in. We will back this up with clear and frequent reporting. To our suppliers we will provide the opportunity to partner for joint success. Certain inherent values guide our path to this vision. Reliability, service and value are our traditional core values, appropriately focused on seedling production. To these I propose adding our growth-oriented values: leadership and innovation. Please join me in making this vision and these values your own. I look forward to your feedback, an ongoing discussion of these ideas, and your support. Sincerely,
John Kitchen President & CEO
