PRT Beaverlodge is located in the boreal coniferous zone (North West Boreal 8), plant hardiness zone 3b (2a), at Beaverlodge, Alberta.

This state-of-the-art nursery was built in late 1994, with the first crop of seedlings harvested in the summer of 1995. The nursery is situated on a land base of 39 ha (96 acres). Annual production consists of approximately 11 million 1+0 container seedlings. Interior spruce and lodgepole pine make up the majority of stock grown.

PRT Beaverlodge offers a full range of standard seedling products and related nursery services, and specializes in the following areas:

Seedlings for Summer and Spring Planting - custom growing programs provide well-conditioned seedlings for summer and spring planting. For seedlings that are to be spring planted, a cold storage facility with a capacity of approximately four million seedlings was added in 1998. This added service and custom thawing in our 10,000 square foot pre-conditioning area enhances our customers' opportunity for improved plantation establishment success.

2+0 stock types are offered by PRT Beaverlodge through PRT's southern nurseries, Harrop at Nelson and Campbell River on Vancouver Island. Favourable climatic conditions at those PRT locations and consistent snow cover (Harrop) minimize overwintering risks and provide an ideal environment for the reliable production of 2+0 seedlings. These well-conditioned, robust and well-balanced seedlings are economical and provide high value for various site conditions. 2+0 seedlings are typically planted around mid-July when field moisture is often at it's best, and seedlings are fully acclimated with maximum diameter growth and root growth potential. Large container types are available for difficult sites and help in reaching free-to-grow faster.

Seed Orchard - PRT Beaverlodge provides consulting services to the Huallen Seed Orchard Company on behalf of a number Alberta forest companies. The orchard forms part of the intensive silviculture initiative in Alberta through the production of improved seed thereby helping to improve the value of our future forests.
