PRT Kirkland Lake is located on the highway 11 corridor in Ontario's boreal forest, and has the ability to produce all reforestation species Seedlings are grown in 104,000 square feet of gutter-connected and freestanding greenhouses and 50,000 square feet of open compound. Argus computerized environmental controls are utilized well to control temperatures in the greenhouses and monitor seedlings throughout the nursery. "Exponta™" nutrient-loaded seedlings are grown using a proprietary nutrient and cultural regime developed at the nursery. The nursery offers a full range of standard seedling products and related nursery services, with additional specialties in the following areas:
2+0 Container Seedlings: The moderate climate, consistent snow cover, and our ability to generate artificial snow provide us with the environment needed to produce 2+0 seedlings. These well-conditioned, robust and well-balanced seedlings are economical and provide high value, especially for sites that are subject to vegetative competition and/or snow press. They are typically used on very productive sites as a replacement for bareroot seedlings. As well, we offer 2+0 seedlings grown at other, select PRT nurseries that have favorable climates for overwintering. The main seedling products and services offered by PRT Kirkland Lake include: Cold Storage: PRT Kirkland Lake includes on-site cold storage facilities to store seedlings produced for spring planting.
