Hardwoods are a product of interest for short-rotation crops and afforestation projects both in Canada and the US. Hardwoods are desirable tree species not only due to their rapid growth and short rotations, but also for their very bright fibre qualities. The wood makes excellent components for high quality printing papers and chips for oriented strand board products.
PRT produces fast-growing hardwood trees using wild seed and material from selected improved parents. Superior varieties are propagated vegetatively from dormant or greenwood cuttings. Vegetative propagation allows for the mass production of large numbers of plants with uniform and enhanced growth characteristics. PRT maintains a wide variety of hardwood varieties for propagation.
Hardwoods are available in a number of different stock types including: container stock from seed or cuttings; field-grown bareroot stock from cuttings or transplants; and also as unrooted cuttings. For more information on hardwood products please contact your local PRT representative.
